A quarterback who can't keep his hands to himself and a reefer smoking WR are the least of our problems.

The team as a whole just didn't give a damn last year. We consistently lost games to inferior
teams because they were hungry and we were so full of our own shit we could float. What about our two so called "star players"? In Santonio Holmes we had a one time MVP who became Mr. Droppy, costing us not only touchdowns with missed receptions in the end zone over and over, but missing touchdown opportunities that could have won games. Meanwhile, Big Ben would rather get knocked over on his fat ass than risk an interception.

I'm not one of these "blame the quarterback" guys, though. Ben must work with an O-Line that scatters like rats when the lights go on, running backs who trip over the hash marks, and wide receivers who if they can manage to get open can't hold on to the ball. Ben doesn't inspire any confidence this season either, showing up for spring practice overweight, out of shape, and sporting a haircut that went out of fashion some time around 1993.

As good as Santonio Holmes was when he wanted to be, I won't miss him if last year's rookie phenom Mike Wallace steps up. I also won't miss the under reported departure of Willie Parker. Mendenhall proved last year he wasn't a draft waste, making up for his ridiculous 2008 season. This doesn't cover all our weaknesses, but it's a start and if we have the drive and hunger again we'll be okay.

As for Ben, it's time to hit the treadmill or start looking for another job.

My Idea of a "Food Revolution"

At 2:33 PM Eastern time today I finished an album over 2 years in the making. I'm going to discuss songs that blew me away the first time I heard them and continue to impress me. I might make this into a continuing series, or like most other things loose interest after the initial installment. That's the risk you run with ol' JP.

"Moments in Love" by The Art of Noise

I remember the first time I heard this (well, the extended album cut, anyway). Someone played it on a late night radio show one night in the summer before my senior year in high school. Here's a song perfectly paced that sets such an unbelievable vibe, somewhere between chill and anxiety, or perhaps their unholy union. I had to have it. The entire album is visionary, revolutionary, influential electronic music and an essential to my collection.

"Midlife Crisis" by Faith No More

When this long anticipated track hit MTV it acheived a rare status: filling every expectation for the next logical step of this band, and being so far ahead of everyone else it made Maria Carey and Boyz II Men obsolete. Here was a song with such an original feel, yet poked at music conventions, soaring with sarcasm and true irony. The opening tribal drum figure and subtle Simon & Garfuncle sample, the eerie minor chord Emax strings, cookie monster vocals alternating with middle eastern tinged soul. Then they launch into a chorus worthy of Madonna, yet they are at once laughing a pointing at her while still showing her up. It's a dark and twisted pop song, if such a thing really exists. I can't possibly express how influential this song was to me.

"Shattered Dreams" by Johnny Hates Jazz

I'm a sucker for minor key pop songs, angry and bitter pop songs, and overly dramatic pop songs. "Shattered Dreams" is like the uneasy feel of "Happy Together" by the Turtles, but with entirely different subject matter. The theme was unusual for its time. Now we hear songs where guys and girls tell off their exes all the time. But like Bob Dylan and John Lennon wrote songs arguably for the first time about their innadequacies with women, rather than the boastful machismo of the previous rock and roll generation, Johnny Hates Jazz describe not just anger at being treated liek shit by a woman, but how it actually feels. I think this song is underated, underappreceated, and it still gives me goosebumps.

Workplace Safety

In the encounter in which histories are related generally on abrupt games not they mention the
jokes that left bad: the worker who was run over by the conductor of the freight elevator that
only wanted to give a scare him, or the person who fell of stairs when he shook it to another
one.
